Africa
Regional partners include the IPPF regional office (based in Nairobi), the UNAIDS Regional Support Teams (based in Johannesburg and Dakar) and NAP+ (Network of African People Living with HIV, based in Nairobi).
Regional partnerships are being consolidated in Africa to support the future rollout of the index in the region. The international partners worked closely with the IPPF regional office (based in Nairobi), the UNAIDS Regional Support Teams (based in Johannesburg and Dakar) and NAP+ to plan, implement and support follow-up from the regional training workshops.
Two workshops were held in Africa 2008:
- Nairobi, Kenya (13-16 May 2008) for 12 participants from 6 countries in Southern and Eastern Africa: Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania and Swaziland. The facilitators were from IPPF, UNAIDS, ICW and national networks of people living with HIV (and were from Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, UK and Australia). Observers attended the meeting from UNAIDS Kenya, NAP+, USAID/ Health Partnership Initiative (HPI) and from the IPPF Africa Regional Office. The workshop was conducted in English.
- Dakar, Senegal (20-23 May 2008) for 14 participants from 9 countries in Western, Central and Southern Africa: Cameroon, Senegal, Rwanda, Burundi, RCA, Congo Brazzaville, Niger, Cote d'Ivoire and Angola. The facilitators were from IPPF, ICW and GNP (and were from Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire and Australia). Observers attended the meeting from the national family planning association of Senegal (ASBEF). The workshop was conducted in French and Portuguese, with some English.
