The regional coordination of the stigma index initiative includes a partnerships between the IPPF regional office (based in Brussels), the UNAIDS Regional Support Team (based in Moscow), UNDP and local networks of people living with HIV.
The workshop was hosted in Istanbul, Turkey (3 - 6 March 2009) for 20 participants from 10 countries in Eastern and Central Europe: Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakstan, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The facilitators-from IPPF, UNAIDS, UNDP, and the Polish Network of People Living with HIV-were from Russia, Poland, Uzbekistan and Australia. Observers attended the meeting from UNAIDS Regional Support Office, IPPF Central Office and European Regional Office, and ICW. The workshop was conducted in English and Russian, with simultaneous translation provided by the UNAIDS RST in Moscow.
In the future, the international partners hope to conduct another workshop in Europe to build the capacity of national partners in Southern and Western Europe to implement the index.
