The People Living with HIV Stigma Index in The Mauritius was conducted in 2013.
Nearly two thirds of the sample was male (62.7%, n=250), approximately a third were female (32.8%, n=131) and a small portion was transgender (4.5%,n=18). Over one third of respondents (38%,n=153) were aged 30-39 years, and another third (34%, n=134) aged 40–49 years. Ten percent were aged 25-29 (n=39), another 10% were 50 years of age or older ( n=40), seven percent (n=28) aged 20-24 years, and about 1% (n=5) were aged 18-19.
Over one third of respondents were married or cohabiting and currently living with their partners (34.1%, n=136) with 21% of respondents (n=82) either being in a relationship but not living with their partners (14% n=55), or married or cohabiting but the spouse or partner is temporarily away from the household (7%, n=27). Over 40% of respondents (45.4%,n=181) were single (unmarried,divorced or widowed). Two thirds (n=271) reported being sexually active.
