Malawi - more efforts needed to promote the positive health, dignity and preventions needs of people living with HIV (2010).
A total of 2272 people living with HIV were interviewed on their experiences of stigma and discrimination.
Nearly 90% of respondents indicated that they had children, of whom, nearly one quarter had one or more HIV positive children. Additionally Over 80% of respondents reported children orphaned due to AIDS living in their household with 71.5% reporting 1 to 4 orphaned children, 11% reporting 5 to 10 orphaned children with an average of 3 orphans per household. Most of these families reported facing problems associated with food security.
