Taiwan implements the Index

20 Mar 2018

The first implementation of the People Living with HIV Stigma Index in Taiwan was finished in 2017, led by PRAA (Persons with HIV/AIDS Rights Advocacy Association of Taiwan).

Status Disclosure is Associated with Social HIV Stigma and Discrimination -

A total of 842 PLHIV (3% of total PLHIV population in Taiwan) participated in this nationwide survey. Despite the vivid and generally free environment that supports Taiwan being possibly the first in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, the result of the index revealed the still existence of stigma and discrimination toward PLHIV. In contrast to that 98% participants had disclosed their status to their health care workers, there were still 57.3% participants who decided not to tell their adult family members about their HIV status.
