Fiji - Stigma Index findings contribute to HIV decree 2010

The Fiji Network for People Living with HIV and AIDS (FJN+) conducted the People Living with HIV Stigma Index in the Fiji Islands in 2010.  A sample of 45 People Living with HIV were interviewed in Suva and Lautoka on the Island of Viti Levu and in Labasa on the Island of Vanua Levu.  

High numbers of self stigma were reported in Fiji with over 30 people reporting guilt, blame and low self esteem. Since 2010 FJN+ has strengthened the couselling services available to PLHIV, and has used evicence from the PLHIV Stigma Index to ensure clauses on stigma and discrimination and confidentiality are included in the HIV decree passed in 2010 which aims to safeguard the rights of PLHIV.
