History of the initiative in the region

The first  regional training for the People Living with HIV Stigma Index took place in Kathmandu (2-4 March 2008) for 11 participants from 5 countries in South Asia-Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The facilitators were from IPPF, ICW and University of the Western Cape South Africa. Observers attended the meeting from UNAIDS Nepal, UNAIDS Pakistan, UNAIDS Regional Support Team and from the Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN). The workshop was conducted in English with translation into Singhalese.

To date the People Living with HIV Stigma Index has been rolled out in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
