The People Living with HIV Stigma Index in The Senegal was conducted in 2012.
The survey population had 626 people, including 436 women (69.6%), 186 men (29.7%) and
4 transgender persons (0.6%) More than 1 in 2 people was older than 40 years old, with no difference between genders regarding being older or younger than 40 years old.
The majority of respondents had been aware of their HIV status from 5 to 9 years (2 in 5 respondents), 14% of them had been aware of their status for less than a year and 8% had been living with HIV for more than 15 years, with no difference between genders (p=0.44).
More than 1 in 2 people was in a relationship (marriage, cohabitation or relationship), singles and widows represented respectively 18.9% and 18.6% of respondents, and divorced people 10%.
Furthermore, 444 in 619 respondents (71%) report being sexually active, with significantly more men than women (86% versus 65%).
