PLHIV Stigma Index in the time of COVID-19

27 March 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our daily lives in many different ways. As we all know, the response to the COVID-19 situation differs greatly by country and is changing on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, we encourage country implementers to put necessary measures in place for further implementation steps for the PLHIV Stigma Index, guided by the following principles:

  1. Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all people living with HIV engaged in the process: interviewers, interviewees, coordinators and everyone else involved.
  2. Compliance with government requirements on COVID-19 response.
  3. In most countries, there are specific guidelines on what can and cannot be done regarding studies during the pandemic response. If there isn’t any guidance, please revert to your government’s requirements regarding movements, health and safety.
  4. Maintaining close communication and coordination with GNP+ for any adjustments or advise needed for further implementation.

The COVID-19 pandemic will have an impact on the planning and implementation of the PLHIV Stigma Index. GNP+ is available to discuss with each country what the implications are, to assess what is and what is not possible, and how to adjust protocols and keep moving forward during this difficult time.
