Updates from Country Implementations of the PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0 – October 2020

While 2020 has proved to be a challenging year for implementing the PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PLHIV networks have shown their resilience as they progress with their implementation process. As of October 2020, 37 countries are implementing the PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0. Here are updates from country implementations of PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0:

In early 2020, a standardized PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0 sampling methodology was developed to increase the comparability of PLHIV Stigma Index findings within and across countries. This sampling methodology aims to adequately measure the manifestation of stigma and discrimination across different populations and within different contexts and monitor changes over time. In addition, the sampling methodology provides detailed guidance on implementation requirements for countries to follow. Moreover, it uses validated indicators, a systematic sampling plan, a standardized approach to the recruitment of participants, and tested strategies to reach PLHIV from all key populations. The sampling methodology also has a strong focus on including PLHIV not linked to care and/or treatment. Among the 37 countries implementing PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0, 33 began their implementation process after the standardized sampling methodology was introduced and, as such, are utilizing the new methodology.
